It doesn't last as long as you want

So long, and thanks for all the fish
Summer is winding to a close and we're getting to the point where we don't have a lot of great weather. There's the odd day here and there where the sun can warm you up a bit but the days where you can spend all day on the beach, have a nice swim and some fish and chips (and not freeze) are gone and won't be back for a long time. The great weather has been carrying my mood for a while so now I need to make sure I don't go into hibernation.
Brighton in the summer is just great. I love it, everyone loves it. Lots of folks around, lovely weather, lots of stuff happening, ice cream aplenty. I only left Brighton twice all summer because I didn't want to go away without a good reason.
An undercurrent
All good things come to an end though and despite the nice times and great weather, I spent a lot of time this summer quite sad after losing my Grandad who died in April. My Grandad made the most of things and would have wanted me to enjoy myself this summer so I did. I did a few things that I'd been putting off for a while, like buying a paddleboard. I also spent a lot of time with friends and ate a lot of amazing food.
The next few months
When looking at the next few months there's a period of adjustment with changes to the weather and the daylight. As a society, we tend to move away from doing things outside to doing them inside. This is a great opportunity to do things to improve yourself. The gym is warm! Reading books at home or in cafes is warm.
The upsides
There are other things to enjoy about winter. A cuppa is much more welcome, there's big hearty food to make, blankets make us comfy and we can spend time relaxing a bit and look after ourselves.
Time to pack away the paddleboard and get out my big coat, it's going to get chilly. That doesn't mean there's nothing to do though! Gigs, pubs and friends' houses beckon.
