This one is a short one as I'm away visiting my family.
During the COVID lockdowns, I missed a lot of things. I missed going to gigs, I missed my friends and family, I missed pubs, restaurants, shops, cafes, the gym, good coffee, travelling, meeting new folks, clubbing, and plenty more. One thing I didn't miss for some reason was the cinema.
Going to the cinema wasn't really on the list of things I was looking forward to, and it was one of the last things I did as the world opened up. I went to see the Uncharted film which was pretty fun, a good example of a Big Dumb Movie, or BDM for short. A BDM is a film that has a lot of cliches, not much plot, and a whole lot of explosions (think Michael Bay's Transformer movies or Fast and Furious). I used to go to the cinema a lot with my Granny and godfather when I was younger and we saw a lot of BDMs over the years.
The next one I watched was the Godfather Part II which was showing as a 50-year special. I was bored and went because I'd never seen it before and ended up having a bunch of fun. I went to see Top Gun: Maverick the other week and that's when I realised how much I loved the cinema. There's something about getting a bucket of popcorn and a Tango Ice Blast and being hit with a wall of sound and light that took me back to the days of the BDM.
I've also been to see the Elvis film and the Minions film with my younger brother. Always good to hang out with the big man. The cinema is just a great opportunity to laugh together and enjoy something. I also love going to the cinema on my own. It's so nice to just spend a bit of time to yourself as well.
Since I've been to the cinema after lockdowns I think I'll be going to the cinema more regularly than I would have expected to in the depths of 2020, and I'm quite happy about that.
